Kilamanzego ["kill-a-man's-ego"] is the moniker for Kay Oko, an experimental electronic music producer, vocalist, and visual artist based in Philadelphia. Her debut EP, "These Roots Are On Fire", arrived in 2020 to enthusiastic acclaim and she continued to receive attention from a growing dedicated following that has been peaking with singles from her personable 2023 EP, "Black Weirdo".

Born and raised between two cultural extremes (New York City and Kentucky) by a single father from Ghana, the songwriter/producer developed a musical identity as a kid by starting and performing in every type of band imaginable: hardcore, punk, jazz, metal, and ska, and eventually turned to producing after listening to J Dilla instrumentals and living long-term in California and Istanbul.

As she struggled with identity issues as a queer androgynous left-field personality, she eventually relocated to Pennsylvania, a state that she and her father frequented when she was a young, and began writing lyrics that spoke to her being a marginalized outsider. Her persistence in expanding her creative sound has led her to perform on major stages such as Red Rocks, Shambhala, and more.

Embracing "Kilamanzego" as her performer name, which initially was almost "Kilimanjaro" to pay homage to her African culture, she playfully and confidently makes a bold statement of women's empowerment as a unique force in the electronic scene.

the Black Weirdo EP is for the outsiders having identity struggles and all marginalized voices that need to be heard. The vocals on this record are raw and stick out, and I now feel that's part of the reason why. There's more simplification on 'Black Weirdo EP' than my previous works to make room for other genre influences (UK jungle, psychedelic rock drums, indie rock, and even Earth Wind & Fire inspired falsetto vocals).

Fun Fact: The song titles read poetically from top to bottom.
